Kander and Ebb musical Chicago is all set to mark its return to the London stage. Phoenix Theatre is all set to host the return of Chicago The Musical. The popular show was last seen in the West End at the Garrick Theatre in the year 2012. The spectacular production enjoyed more than 15 years of running along with several national and international tours.

In the year 1975, the show was originally premiered on Broadway and earned huge acclaimation for its 1996 revival under the direction of Walter Bobbie featured Bebe Neuwirth and Joel Grey. The show was honoured with six Tony Awards, including Best Musical Revival, and later transferred to the West End. In Westend, the show won two Olivier Awards including Outstanding Musical Production.

The story of Chicago the Musical is based on the story of reporter Maureen Dallas Watkins’ 1926 play with the same name. The story revolves around club performers who turned murderesses. The story is set in the era of 20’s. The show is set against the backdrop of the gaudy nightclub scene, where Roxie Hart pulls a gun on her lover.

Roxie Hart ends up in Cook County Jail, alongside star Velma Kelly and other villains. For her survival, Roxie need to act appropriately. The story has another interesting character, the smooth-talking lawyer Billy Flynn. In order to avoid Death Row, the girls put on the lifetime performances.

Musical veterans Kander and Ebb churned out some really mesmerizing score and renowned for some great works like Cabaret and The Scottsboro Boys. Chicago features some show-stopping soundtrack including numbers such as “All That Jazz”, “Funny Honey”, “When You’re Good to Mama”, “Razzle Dazzle” and “Hot Honey Rag”. The role of Billy Flynn is portrayed by the Academy Award-winner Cuba Gooding Jr.

After five years, the show is all set to return to the London Westend. The sizzling, sexy musical is renowned for its 2002 film adaptation, featuring Catherine Zeta-Jones and Renee Zellweger. On March 2018, the production is all set to open at the Phoenix Theatre.
